The Arizer Air MAX is a portable dry herb vaporizer featuring a replaceable 26650 battery system, a full temp spectrum powered by a hybrid heating system, and an all-glass vapor path creating excellent flavor.
This is the third iteration of the Arizer Air Vaporizer and by far the best unit yet. Arizer hit the mark on this one and while I’m not a huge fan of the higher-than-average draw resistance, the flavor and overall ease of use set this unit apart from the rest.
The Arizer Air MAX is the perfect vaporizer for someone wanting above-average battery life via a replaceable battery system and excellent flavor via the all-glass vapor path. I’ll get more into the battery and heater specs later on in this Arizer Air Max vaporizer review.
The Air MAX vaporizer retails for $219 ($176 w/ coupon code) and you can click here to pick it up directly from Arizer. Don’t forget to use coupon code VAPEWIZ20 to save 20%.

The Air MAX vaporizer comes with everything you need to vape flower (except the flower) but the main thing I recommend with the purchase of a dry herb vaporizer is a grinder. A grinder will help break down the herbs and provide more surface area for even heating. It also makes it easy to store your herbs unless you pick up a storage container of sorts.
The other accessory I recommend picking up is an extra battery and the single battery external charger. This way you can charge externally from the unit. The internal charging will take around 3 hours via USB-C and the external chargers can charge the batteries in roughly half the time. So if you’re an above-average user and are worried about battery life on the go, this is the best option. Keep a couple of batteries charged up and ready to go for the day.
Lastly, Arizer offers a couple of soft case or hard case storage options which can help protect your vaporizer while out on the go. The glass stems do come with PVC tubes which help protect and provide storage for a single-use bowl.
I am super excited about the fact that Arizer has started to include the WPA (Water Pipe Adapter) with the newer units which makes hooking up to glass a lot easier.
If you don’t have any glass pieces, I highly recommend picking one up for the Arizer vaporizers. I think the best session experience is definitely via a water bubbler of sorts. Check out my recommendations for glass options (potv glass link) and hit me up with any questions.
Size and Portability
The new Air MAX is roughly a quarter-inch taller than the previous Arizer Air models. This is because the new Air MAX uses a MASSIVE 5000 mAh replaceable 26650 battery and they needed a bit more room in the body. Even if you have a previous Air vaporizer model, I highly doubt that you would even notice the slightly taller specs without comparing them side by side.
There is a bit of a difference in weight compared to the previous Arizer Air models. The new Air MAX weighs roughly 160 grams with the new battery and increased size whereas the previous Air 2 model weighed roughly 116 grams. So quite a bit of a difference overall but still fits nicely in the pockets and is relatively lightweight compared to some other popular portable vaporizers currently on the market.
The Air MAX and the Air SE are two of the three portable vaporizer options offered by Arizer. They also have the Arizer ArGo which is by far the most portable device, but doesn’t offer the battery life, vapor quality, or customizable options featured in the Arizer Air MAX. You can check out more information about all of the Arizer vaporizers in my Arizer Vaporizer Review and Buying Guide.
While the Arizer Air units are slim and very pocket-friendly, they all use a glass stem as a bowl/mouthpiece and attach to the top of the vaporizer while in use. So the Arizer Air units are not necessarily the best portable vaporizers for use on the go but they do come with the PVC tubes to safely store the glass stems while out and about. It’s not the end of the world but I prefer to not have glass stems in my pockets when I’m out biking, skiing, or really anything where the glass has a chance to break in my pocket.
Build Quality and Design
The Arizer Air MAX uses a very strong/durable alloy shell and does a very good job at protecting the vaporizer from any falls, dings, drops, etc. The only thing I’m not so sure about is the finish of the alloy on the Arizer Air MAX. It’s a very shiny/smooth surface whereas the previous Arizer Air and Air 2 featured a matte/brushed type finish which did a great job at hiding imperfections over time. We will see how the new alloy shell on the Air MAX holds up as I use it more. Not a deal breaker but worth noting.
I do really like the overall feel and appearance of the Air Max. The screen is bright and easy to read, the buttons feel great and everything functions as it should. The Air MAX is a solid device both internally and externally.
Battery Info and Charging Options
This is where the Arizer Air MAX truly shines. The fact that Arizer was able to get a 5000mAh battery inside this device is insane. As I mentioned above, the Air MAX is slightly taller than the previous Air vaporizer versions because they needed more space for this giant battery.
Battery Specs – The Arizer Air MAX uses a SW26650-50ME replaceable/rechargeable battery and charges internally via USB-C.
Battery Life – I’ve been averaging around 13 bowls on a full charge, roughly 135 minutes of average continuous use. There’s no other vaporizer in this price range and category that can keep up with the Arizer Air MAX. By comparison, the POTV Lobo ($159) also uses a replaceable battery system (3500mAh) and I average around 40 minutes of continuous use with the POTV Lobo. Check out my POTV Lobo vaporizer review for more info on that device.
The only vaporizers to compete with the Air MAX in terms of overall battery life are the new Storz and Bickel Venty, the Arizer Solo 2 Max, and the older Mighty+ vaporizer. These vaporizers are super close in a lot of categories but overall I prefer the free-flowing draw of the Storz and Bickel Venty above the rest, but you pay a premium. Check out my Venty vaporizer review for more info. I’ll have links to these reviews in the “suggested reviews” section of this Air Max review.
Charging Times – The Air Max charges to 90% in 2 hours and I’ve averaged around 3 hours to fully charge the Air MAX battery within the device via USB-C.
Arizer does offer a single-battery external charger for the 26650 batteries. So technically you could have one charging within the device if needed and a second battery charging via the external battery charger. The Arizer 26650 battery charger runs $53.99. You can use the VAPEWIZ20 coupon code to save 20% on accessories.
Overall you will not find a better portable vaporizer (in this price range) when considering overall battery life per full charge. It’s also one of the faster charging portable vaporizers, especially considering it uses a replaceable battery system.
Heating and Temp Options
The Arizer Air Max features a full temperature spectrum ranging from 122F – 428F (50C – 220C) and averages around a 60-second heat-up time to 356F – 392F.
The heat-up time isn’t necessarily a big deal because the Arizer vaporizers are session-style portable vaporizers and work best when you have 10 minutes or so to sit down and really enjoy the entire bowl. A quicker heat-up time would have been nice but overall not a deal breaker.
Other popular portable vaporizers offer quicker heat-up times but not this price range. The Venty averages around 20-25 seconds to heat up but runs $449 compared to $175 (with vapewiz20 coupon code) on the Arizer Air MAX. If price doesn’t matter I recommend the Venty but the Air MAX is a great value for the features offered.
Vapor Quality and Draw Resistance
Arizer vaporizers are known for excellent vapor quality via the hybrid heating system and all glass vapor path but they are very heavy on the draw resistance. Meaning they aren’t the easiest vaporizers to draw from.
The preferred draw technique for Arizer vaporizers is likened to pulling a thick milkshake through a straw. You really have to slow down your draw and let the vapor form over time. Arizer recommends a slow 15-second draw which isn’t the easiest thing to do for some people.
I’ve found good results with a light flower pack in the chamber and slowing down my draw until I start to feel the vapor form on my tongue/throat, then I can really start to rip the bowl.
So while the Arizer Air MAX is easy to use and produces consistent reliable results, there is a bit of a small learning curve to getting the best results.
Arizer also includes a small screen to place in the bottom of the chamber to help with herbs coming through the glass stem. I’ve personally found that they don’t stay in the chamber and just prefer to use the stems without the screens. After a few bowls, the stems will start to form a residue on the sides of the glass and will stop any treats from coming up the stem.
Chamber Info
The Air MAX vaporizer uses a ceramic heating element and stainless steel chamber to heat the herbs within the glass stem. If you’re loading the stem right, the flower doesn’t actually come into contact with the heating element and will only heat the air and glass stem around the flower.
I’ve averaged around .15 grams of flower in the glass stem and use a small albeit very light pack to help situate the herbs into the bowl. Pressing the herbs into the chamber too tightly can greatly increase the overall draw resistance and make it hard for the heating element to evenly vape the herbs causing charring and possibly the need to stir the bowl.
The bottom line is less is more, and don’t pack too tightly for the best results. I prefer an average grind as well. A fine grind will cause Scooby snacks to come up through the stem. Some people will throw full nugs into the glass stem as well but I don’t have the best luck with that. A lot of it will depend on your specific sessions, flower type, and temp settings. Hit me up in the comments with any questions about loading or best use recommendations.
Maintenance, Cleaning and Warranty
The Arizer AIR MAX (and all Arizer vaporizers) is one of the easiest portable vaporizers to clean, operate and maintain. There’s no flower/herb sitting in the chamber. The flower loads directly into the glass stem which makes cleaning super easy.
How to Clean – All you have to do is drop the glass stems into a small amount of isopropyl alcohol, let them sit for a few minutes, and rinse clean. Next, you’ll take a Q-tip with a small amount of iso and swab out the chamber. Make sure to do this upside down so no liquids get into the heating element and let the unit completely dry before turning back on and using.
The entire cleaning process takes me less than 5 minutes and it’s one of the reasons why I really like my Arizer vaporizers. I’ve mentioned the Venty vaporizer multiple times in this review and while I prefer it over the Air MAX in pretty much every category, cleaning is not one of them. The cooling unit on top of the Venty vaporizer has something like 5-7 individual pieces that have to be taken apart and cleaned individually. So a full clean with the Venty will take me around 10-15 minutes. I could already have cleaned the Air MAX and been using it in the time it takes me to clean the Venty.
Warranty Info – Overall the Arizer vaporizers are very well built, easy to clean, easy to operate, easy to maintain and last but definitely not least, the Arizer Air MAX comes with a limited 2-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship (excluding the battery/glass) and a lifetime warranty on the ceramic heating element.
I’ve reviewed and tested a dozen different Arizer vaporizers over the years, both portable and desktop, and I’ve never had an issue with any of them. Not one single customer service email, not one warranty repair, not one broken piece, nothing. They are the pinnacle of durable, reliable, and borderline maintenance-free vaporizers. They offer excellent customer service and back up their products with great warranties.
Air MAX Review Summary
Overall the Arizer Air Max is currently the best portable vaporizer under $200 and the perfect vaporizer for someone needing a lot of battery life in a replaceable battery system. The flavor is excellent and it’s one of the easiest portable vaporizers to own and maintain.
As I mentioned above, I’m not a huge fan of the draw resistance and there are definitely more freer-flowing units available but just not in this price range. The only other downside is the glass stems and the issue of portability but the glass stems are also a huge benefit because it’s one of the only portable vaporizers to offer an all-glass vapor path.
If you can get over the draw resistance and the portability/glass stem factor, I think you will really enjoy the Arizer Air MAX. I used an original Arizer Solo back in the day for multiple years and it was the MOST reliable portable vaporizer I’ve ever used.
The last thing I will mention is that the Arizer Air MAX and Arizer portable vaporizers in general are not the best for heavy daily users. They are best for low and medium tolerance users. I recommend stepping up to the Venty if you’re heavier daily user like yours truly. Check out my Venty vaporizer review for more info.
The Arizer Air MAX retails for $219 but you can click here to pick it up directly from Arizer for $176 with coupon code VAPEWIZ20. You can also use the coupon code on accessories. I highly recommend checking out the protective carry cases if you decide to go with the Air MAX.
As always, feel free to hit me up in the comments or via my contact page with any questions, comments, suggestions or just to share your experience. Myself and other vaporents would really like to hear what you think about the Arizer Air MAX.
